Image is a photo of the full size tub of the body shop mango body butter. It's an orange tub with a large mango graphic covering almost the entire package, a small body shop logo is in the center.

Hey lovelies! I have to say it’s great to be able to post so often ^_^ I’ve been feeling a bit better so I’m using the extra energy to be productive.

We all know I bought mongo amounts of products from The Body Shop recently (if you don’t know, check out my haul here). Although I got something on the order of a $188USD discount I still hadn’t reviewed a SINGLE thing! I’ve had my products long enough to try them out well, and I’m going to begin by telling you about the Mango Body Butter!

Image is a photo of two mango body body butters from the body shop, each a different size. The full size on the left and the mini on the right. The image has text under each. Under the full size the text reads: Big Girl Size; under the mini it reads: mini. They are slightly different shades of orange, and the graphics are different, but both feature mango graphics.

The first purchase of the Mango Body Butter was actually a few months back when I picked up a mini to try out. It smelled so good but I didn’t want to blow $19 on a product if it didn’t work well, or if it broke me out (yep, body acne is the worst!). The mini product went FAST, so when I started my haul I decided it was time to grab the Big Girl size.

So first you already know I love the smell, it’s the most amazing scent and MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BODY SHOP SCENT. It doesn’t smell the same in all versions of the Mango products (the body scrub, the lotion, etc), and to me the body butter is the best smelling of the Mango line. As for other favorite Body Shop product smells, I like limited edition Cranberry, and many of the Strawberry line. Remember folks, I’m biased against flower scents so keep that in mind.

Image is a photo of a finger with a swatch of mango body butter on it to show texture and color of the product. It is truly like butter, though it is more orange in color. The texture is silky and smooth.

To me this is a fantastic product, does a pretty good job of making my skin softer, and after putting it on my skin feels moist which is important in this dry Vermont wintertime. I’m not sure the formula is strong enough to justify buying it over cheaper body butters but for me it is because it doubles as a scent. I’ll literally put it on just to smell good for a few hours, to cheer myself up and enjoy having a lifted mood for a bit.

Water, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Butter, Glycerin, Cyclomethicone, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Lanolin Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Xanthan Gum, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxide, Citral, Eugenol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Citronellol, Annatto.

The Good

  • Smells the best out of any of The Body Shop’s current selection of body butters
  • Doubles as a body scent, especially if you can’t do perfumes. It’s mild but warms the heart just a bit.
  • Does NOT break me out! In fact, I think it helps my acne heal because of the moisture effect.
  • Works as a body butter too, for some reason.

The Bad

  • While pretty affordable, in this economy $19USD can be a lot to pay for a body butter. You could do what I did and wait for a sale before loading up.
  • It does work, but it’s not ZUPER FANTAZTIQUE enough to outperform cheaper body butters.
  • Comes in an unhygienic jar. I’m always worried about contaminating it with my gross human hands. Thankfully it uses safe and powerful preservatives otherwise it’d make me break out.

Bottom line: I love it. It’s one of my FAVORITE products from The Body Shop BAR NONE. Seriously you guys if you could all smell it you’d be in love with it and want to buy it flowers. Would I recommend it? YES, I’ve even bought it to give as gifts. If the price doesn’t scare you try it out!

Have you tried it? If so what do you think? Does it smell good to you?

I haven’t used that specific body butter but I am in love with anything and everything strawberry scented from the body shop. I almost wish they made a perfume lol

Hey you know what? They TOTALLY make a strawberry perfume!! I have the Strawberry Body Mist and it’s among the best things ever. Also, I’m sensitive to perfumes and this particular product doesn’t make me all headachey like most scents do (I know I’m not the only one.)

I hope that helps you ^_^

I’m not a huge fan of the strawberry body butter, it smells okay to me, not nearly as smexy as the body wash or body mist.

I’ve never actually purchased anything from the Body shop, but I always pass by it at the mall. The most amazing smell always radiates from the store! I bet this smells great!

It’s worth wandering in to check things out! Almost every single thing in the store has a tester available, which is great for me because I’m the weirdo who has to smell absolutely everything (I’m so sensitive to smells). Their prices to me are a bit high most of the time, but they offer frequent sales if you’re on a budget.

I’ve never tried this body butter before ^^) I’m not a big fan of fruity smells but I’m curious to sniff this!

It smells like mango lassi (an Indian drink), one on my favorite smells ever!

  4. Arya Says:

haven’t tried this variant. maybe because the smell for me is just 50% of the real mango, well check it out on the next sale 😛

    Tiffany Martin Reply:

I can’t say how close it is to a “Real” mango smell, an old friend of mine from Guam says mangoes in the US are wimpy and crappy compared to what can be found elsewhere. I really love it myself, though.

What’s nice is getting to try before you buy, all of The Body Shops here have testers for everything. I hope you can do that too, then you can let me know what you think of the smell, but not necessarily have to risk wasting money.

I’d love to know what you think ^_^

Thanks for the review ! I was thinking to buy this haha I think the packaging is cute but not sure if it works nicely. I totally agree to the unhygienic jar thing !

    Tiffany Martin Reply:

Yeah, I wish makeup and skincare would stop being made in jars. I get the appeal, a jar is a fun package style but I feel like my products will get gross.

Moisturizer doesn’t worry me as much, because it goes on my body but eye cream, or skincare?! No thanks, hehe. I use a spatula or brush if I have to use jars!

If you go to a body shop store you can try out the smell and test it before you buy (at least you can in the US, not sure where you live, hon). Let me know if you like it or not (:

  6. Laya Says:

I remember using this product when it first came out when I was in high school (in the 90s, lol) and it was a completely different texture back then. Seeing this makes me think I’ll give it another try.

    Tiffany Martin Reply:

Oh really!! I didn’t know that! I never used to be into makeup or skincare in high school. I was prejudiced, I thought it was only for shallow people (how wrong I was!), so I never got to try the old formula. I hope this one is an improvement, and maybe they’ll keep making it better ^_^

Laya, if you try it out let us know if you like it (:

I love this blog, very convincing. That body butter sounds pricey but I really want to try.

    Tiffany Martin Reply:

Hi there, so glad you like my blog, thank you. It means a lot to hear people say such nice things.

You’re right, the body butter is pricey, my suggestion is check, they frequently have “$10 buys you $20 in store credit” offers; and also wait for sales at the body shop as well. I can’t afford to spend so much on body butter, maybe you’re the same way?

  8. Lachlan Molineux Says:

I only wear my body shop butter at night because it is very rich and creamy. My skin feels amazing in the morning. I bought the cranberry one in the christmas range.

    Tiffany Martin Reply:

What a good idea, I should try wearing it at night. Right now I usually apply it after showering.

I almost picked up cranberry, the scent was really good! Instead I bought their body spray and reed diffuser in cranberry. What a great scent!

Thank you for stopping by ^_^

I usually hate mango I don’t eat it drink it or anything else went down to the body shop to buy coconut body butter because I’m in love with coconut and they ran out because of a sale I missed out on ( so sad) so I went on smelling different body butter and I liked the mango smell its fresh so I bought it and now I can’t live without it ! It makes my skin smooth since I have extremely dry skin it actually hydrates.
I apply every night before bed time because the shine wears off but my skin the next day feels and looks great!
My boyfriend loves mango so it’s always a plus to please him !

    Tiffany Martin Reply:

Wow a second person who recommends putting it on at night, I really do have to try that! I always apply after a shower instead.

I found this to be one of the very best-smelling products, I’m so happy to hear you like it too! Most wonderful.

Thanks for telling your story, it was one of those surprises I think everyone loves when that happens! (:
