Hey guys, I haven’t been feeling so hot lately. In my last update I was doing rather well, but now my meds are different and stronger, so I’ve been weak and in pain again. With the meds I take, that’s a good thing because it will kill the Lyme, but because of feeling crappy I’ve had to scale back again and make sacrifices. Fewer game nights, more lying in bed watching K-Dramas, more kitty snuggles, slower blog posts. It sucks you know?
But here’s some good news, and it came at such a perfect time because I had been feeling like butts.
You probably already know I created a community on reddit (/r/asianbeauty), heck maybe you’re even a part of it. Usually we chit-chat about different skincare and makeup we love, and talk about products we bought or what we want to buy. I mentioned that I wanted to try the Skin79 Snail BB Cream, and a fellow redditor offered to send me some samples. I asked if she’d like me to send her anything, and she was like: No man, I’m good. What a sweetheart <3 Well, I had forgotten all about it, what with everything going on. And then MAGICALLY this package with a lovely thank you card appeared in my mailbox:
I felt so weird addressing this to The Cake Pie but I don’t know your real name! My name is Simone. I feel super badly about sending the Skin79 samples so late so… I put a bunch of other stuff in the package to make up for it! I hope you like the samples & I <3 your blog! Thanks for talking about Lyme Disease. My grandma is really ashamed of the complications of Lyme. It makes her feel weak. But you are strong! So...
I want to show her your blog when I visit. I sent her a link. I love the sub [asian beauty subreddit] too! So much great stuff. Anyway, sorry for the handwriting, the rambling, and taking forever.
For such a short note, it said a lot to me. To be totally honest, I was pretty moved! It was good to have some solidarity from Simone and her Grandma during a time when Lyme is getting me down. I certainly don’t feel strong! It was really something to have a person tell me that I am.
Thank you Simone.
I hope your dear Grandma is getting treated for her Lyme, and from me, tell her to hang in there! It sure can be a long road but if the remission year I had says anything about what I’ll get when I’m better it’s WORTH IT. If her treatments are hard, she should know it will be worth it too. (If you haven’t read about my Lyme story yet, here’s a link to my article on XOJane)
I always feel a bit shy about talking about Lyme thinking you guys will be like “ugh this is dumb, more makeup!” lol, but really that’s kind of an insult to my community. From my interactions with all of you, the Beauty community (and the emerging Asian Beauty community), are some strong, kind, and intelligent women. I think you guys are some thoughtful people, you know?
That said, this is still a beauty blog, so I want to show you what I got in Simone’s generous sample package (hint, she sent me more than just Skin79 Snail BB cream!!)
Lettuce and Cucumber Water Drop Essence (I love these soothing foods); Goldkiwi toner
Both of the Water March creams! Pink for moisture, blue for pore control.
I wanted to try these so badly (:
Clean Dew Broccoli Sprout Cleansing Cream
Elisha Coy Skin Repairing Snail Cream
I love the idea of a clean fresh cleanser, and I want to try ALL THINGS SNAIL,
and I’ve never tried anything by Elisha Coy before!
How awesome right?
Reddit sometimes gets a bad rap, but I’m glad I found Reddit, and if you haven’t you should give it a try! From my experience finding good subreddits to follow is what will 100% determine your Reddit experience. It’s like night and day how one community will be awesome, and another will be filled with internet jerks. Here are some of my favorite Reddit communities: (/r/skincareaddiction; /r/random_acts_of_amazon; /r/makeupexchange; /r/makeupaddiction; /r/srsgaming; /r/girlgamers etc!) If you’re new to Reddit keep at it, it’s scary at first but you get the hang of it in about a month and then you’re an old pro (:
Have you ever sent gifts to friends on the internet?
Do you have a favorite online community? What do you like the most about it?
What sample in this set appeals to you the most?
