I shop anywhere I think I can buy good products, and this time I wanted to check out what Walgreen’s had. This was my first time in a Walgreen’s, actually, and I found it to have a good selection, about what you’d expect at any drugstore. I bought these products almost a month ago, so I’ve had a chance to try most of them out, so I’ll also be including my first impressions of many of the products. As always, note my special circumstances that may affect reviews or impressions of products, they may affect my opinions. Even better, you may share some of my circumstances! Read more…

Image is a photo of the packaging for the oriental gold bb cream. It is a cylinder shape with a pink bottom half and a gold top half. When I first I learned about BBs I did a lot of research, I read a TON of reviews (both domestic and foreign) and this product kept coming up. I bought it because I wanted to start out with a good quality BB cream rather than randomly experiment, and overall I was glad I did. If you’re new to BB creams, it might be good to start by reading about what they are, as there are no truly analogous western products.

Skin79 is a large brand from South Korea, but it’s more popular and well-known in the west in that it’s a big deal here, and not so much in South Korea. Most women outside of Asia try a Skin79 brand for their first BB cream, but most women in BB-popular countries aren’t as into Skin79. It’s not an inferior brand, personally I think the difference in popularity is a matter of marketing because Skin79 spends a lot of time enticing the foreign market. Read more…

Image is a photo of the contents of an open box from the Julep subscription. On the top of the contents is a card that reads: Simply bewitching. The card has photos of 2 nail polishes, a couple of painted gourds (one black one red with black crackle). The polishes are similar colors and also pictured is a bottle nail drying drops. In general, I’m a very picky person, but like most of us I get excited at the prospect of receiving presents of glorious beauty wonders on a monthly basis. I’ve been researching the various subscription services, and reading reviews done by other beauty bloggers, and even so I’ve only been able to select TWO services that meet my criteria. The problem is that beauty subscriptions are still a new concept, so I think the experiment phase is happening now, where some companies are figuring out what to do. That said, my criteria are actually not super demanding: I need a service that allows me to skip months, and a service that allows some basic level of choice/customization. That’s it! Even still, only two services have met that: Beauty Army, and Julep. Read more…

Image is an advertisement for My Beauty Diary products. It features a fair-skinned female asian model, and a variety of skincare products. Decorating the scene are delicious-looking pastries covered in fruit. The entire ad is very cute looking.Introducing My Beauty Diary! MBD is a Taiwanese brand that has basically consumed the world of face mask making. They’re so ridiculously popular that people make imitations of them even though they’re $1-$2 a mask. MBD has a lot of formulas and mask products, and have since expanded outside of masks into other skincare. They have products for a veritable cornucopia of uses: whitening, brightening, moisturizing, plumping, vitalizing, toning, anti-aging, and a lot more. MBD recently became available through Wal-mart, and since I haven’t tried the Wal-mart products I can’t be sure they’re the same as the formula sold in Asia. You can also find MBD masks at better prices at Asian retailers (Imomoko, Sasa, eBay, Amazon) but don’t go for prices that are too good! Read more…

Image is a photo of an open box. Pictured is a card with a white model wearing makeup. The card reads: Hello, Gorgeous. Inside the box is lined with a print of pink and white camouflage and tissue paper is under the card, obscuring the contents of the box.Beauty Army is one of the many sample services available today. I’m pretty picky about those, and I chose Beauty Army because it lets you pick your samples, they ask you about yourself to customize your samples to match you (skin color, for example), and they let you skip months if you’re not into it that month. This is my first month of Beauty Army, and I’m excited to share with you what I picked out. These are not reviews, just first impressions. It may be helpful to read about my circumstances before reading my opinions. Read more…
